GENERAL INFORMATION & FAQ

  1. What are soft contact lenses?

Soft contact lenses are small, thin, gel-like plastic worn directly on the surface of the eye to correct vision problems. They can correct most vision conditions, including Myopia (short- sightedness), Hyperopia (far-sightedness), Astigmatism (irregularly shaped cornea) and Presbyopia (also known as "old vision" that affects most mid to senior age patients). Cosmetic contact lenses are also available for those who want to enhance their eye color or beauty used to enhance one’s looks.

  2. At what age can I wear contact lenses?

That depends on how responsible you are in maintaining the lenses; this decision is best made jointly between you, your parents and your eye-care professional. Contact lenses, when used with care and proper hygiene, are a safe and effective way for people of all ages to correct their vision.

  3. Can I wear contact lenses while playing sports?

Contact lenses are the ideal vision correction option for athletes. Contact lenses provide you with a wider field of view, enhancing your depth perception and peripheral vision. They are also more comfortable and convenient for physical activity.

  4. Can I still wear my lenses after they have expired?

No. Contact lenses should not be used beyond the expiration date that is printed on the package. Also, wearers should adhere to the recommended wearing schedule.

  5. Can I swim with my contact lenses on?

We do not recommend swimming with your contact lenses on, as there are bacteria in the water that can adhere to your lenses and cause infections.

CAN I WEAR MY CONTACT LENS WHILE APPLYING OR REMOVING EYE MAKE-UP?

To avoid possible complications, patients who wear contact lenses should observe the following guidelines when applying cosmetics or toiletry products.

  • 1

Use water-based but water resistant mascara that is not prone to flaking. Two thin coats are better than one thick coat.

  • 2

Apply cologne, deodorant, and hair spray before inserting your lenses.

  • 3

Put your contacts in before applying make-up.

  • 4

Wash hands thoroughly with oil-free soap prior to inserting lenses.

  • 5

Use soft pencil eyeliner rather than a liquid or powdered version that will flake off.

  • 6

Use pressed powder eye shadow rather than liquid or cream. Never use pearlized or frosted types that may contain tinsel.

  • 7

Always remove your lenses before removing make-up.

Do not attempt to apply or remove your lenses by yourself until your eye care professional has supervised your first completion of both procedures.
